One Snowy Egret got too close to another, causing the second to react by leaping in the air. The first Snowy Egret quickly moved a little further away and they both resumed lookng for food.
I was following this Snowy Egret moving along the shore while it was digging for sand crabs. Just as I was able to align the reflection of the sunset with the Snowy Egret, it caught a sand crab and tossed it in the air, a nice morsel for its dinner at sunset. I was very happy to capture this scene. This natural moment embodies Santa Cruz, California, and the beauty of Monterey Bay.
An intense sunset reflecting off the water of Monetery Bay outlines a Snowy Egret.
